In a recent appearance as a guest on Steve-O’s Wild Ride podcast Slipknot’s Corey Taylor named the band that he considers the best live act he’s seen.

In a chat that went on for over an hour, Taylor was asked how he can keep track while on tour about remembering which songs go with which band. He replied: “Good question. I luckily have not gone into a different band song during another’s band set, I haven’t gone completely fucking batshit but, I think I compartmentalize pretty well, and when you’re in the mask, that keeps you kind of in that moment, in that head space.”

While the conversation continued Steve-O asked Taylor to name who he thought is the best live band “the first one to come to mind”. Corey thought it over for a fleeting moment and then answered: “Oh dude, Alice In Chains. I mean, Jerry Cantrell, the whole band is amazing, and the way that Sean Kenney, the drummer, swings as he plays because everything for them is naturally slower.”

“And the things that they do to manipulate the riffs because they’re so sludgy anyway… The way that they lock in together is fucking unreal. They’re so good that it’s criminal. To this day, they’re that good.”

When Steve-O mentioned that for him Tool is the best live band, Taylor offered: “Tool to me is an acquired taste because they’re so dialed in that it’s almost like listening to the album. And as a punk kid growing up, that’s not necessarily where I’m at. They’re amazing at what they do, but when I go to a show, I want to see something as well. And because they’re not as demonstrably active, I get bored.

“And I hate to say that. It’s not because they’re boring. It’s because I’m bored because I’m so used to shit like Napalm Death where Barney [Greenway] is walking on walls and jumping on people’s heads.”

Taylor‘s new solo album CMF2 is out September 15. Pre-orders are available here. You can also catch him on tour at one of the dates below, and get your tickets here.
