While many musicians spend their days off relaxing in luxury, Foo Fighters‘ frontman Dave Grohl took a different approach during his recent visit to Australia. On December 8th, Grohl, once again traded his rockstar persona for an apron, volunteering his time and culinary skills to serve meals to Melbourne’s homeless population.
Partnering with The Big Umbrella Foundation, a local organization dedicated to providing restaurant-quality meals to those experiencing food insecurity, Grohl spent 18 hours preparing a feast fit for a rockstar. The menu? A mouthwatering American-style BBQ featuring 120kgs of smoked pork ribs, pork butt, and beef brisket.
Not content to simply stay behind the scenes, Grohl joined forces with fellow volunteers, including YouTuber Nat’s What I Reckon, to personally serve over 430 meals. For over two hours, he braved the sweltering heat, posing for photos, and signing autographs on anything fans could find – from cardboard plates to t-shirts.
The Big Umbrella Foundation documented the event in a couple of posts on their Instagram page, expressing their gratitude for Grohl‘s dedication and generosity. The dude totally rules, this is the second time this year he has spent hours cooking for the homeless.
