DISMEMBER Wants To Make Their First New Record Since 2008

Must read

Dismember‘s 1991 lineup reunited in 2019 for a handful of festival dates across the world. The band has since signed to Nuclear Blast and reissued all their old material on streaming services, with the promise of physical reissues to come in the near future.

Now in an interview with Bandcamp, drummer Fred Estby reveals that Dismember is considering making their first new record since their 2008 self-titled effort. And given the resurgence of death metal in recent years, is there really any better time for a new Dismember album?

“We’re talking about making new music,” said Estby. “The question is when. As of right now, because of the pandemic and all that, this year was only honoring all the shows that were booked in 2019 and 2020.

“So, we got those done, and of course, the way metal festivals, especially in Europe, work now is as soon as they’re done, they’re already selling tickets for next year’s edition. So we have a couple coming up, which is gonna be really fun. But we’re also thinking about recording more.”

It’s worth noting that Dismember‘s 2008 self-titled was also the only Dismember remember that Estby didn’t drum on. Though in the same interview, he said he’s still a fan of it.

“I love the album I’m not on,” he said. “Thomas, who played drums, [is an] excellent drummer. I’ve recorded him for other bands. Dismember is a great album with great production, too. It’s fucking brutal, and I love it. It has all the essence of Dismember. It’s death metal, but with a really good sense of melody.”
