Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck has passed away at 78 years old after a brief battle with bacterial meningitis.
“It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck‘s passing,” said Beck‘s family in a statement. “After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”
Beck‘s résumé over the years included a stint with The Yardbirds, an impressive and influential solo career, and a short-lived group with bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice named Beck, Bogert & Appice. One of Beck‘s final appearances was on Ozzy Osbourne‘s Patient Number 9 record, where he played on both the songs “Patient Number 9” and “A Thousand Shades.”
