Original AC/DC drummer Colin Burgess has died at 77 years old. Burgess was recruited for the original lineup of AC/DC in November 1973 featuring Malcolm and Angus Young on rhythm and lead guitar, Dave Evans on vocals, and Larry Van Kriedt on bass. Burgess was ultimately fired from the band in February 1974 and was replaced by a string of drummers, eventually landing on longtime drummer Phil Rudd in 1975.
AC/DC commented on Burgess‘ passing, saying: “Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin.”
Burgess also drummed in The Masters Apprentices from 1968 to 1972, a band that was eventually inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall Of Fame, as well as a band named His Majesty. We wish Burgess‘ friends and family all the best at this time.
