PANTERA Is Teasing Something For Monday

Must read

Pantera has taken to their social media to post a brief video teaser captioned with the date Monday, November 13. The most obvious guess here is more tour dates, given Pantera only has five dates with Metallica and an appearance at Download 2024 lined up for next year.

The other guess here is that there’s a 30th anniversary edition of Far Beyond Driven coming. The video teaser features the album track “5 Minutes Alone” and Far Beyond Driven turns 30 years old on March 22, 2024. So it’s not entirely out of the question that this has something to do with Far Beyond Driven.

The way less obvious (and way less probable, possibly even stupid) guess is new Pantera music. In a December 2022 interview, Pantera drummer Charlie Benante said new music wasn’t entirely out of the question for the band’s new lineup.

“Oh man… who knows?” said Benante. “Creatively, if we are just flowing and getting going, and things are starting to be really good, musically speaking, you never know what could happen. I’ve got tons of riffs. But we’re putting the cart before the horse. I like the positivity there, but I don’t know how people would react to that either at this point. I think first, let’s get out there and establish that we can play. I’m always open to the future.”

However, longtime Pantera producer Sterling Winfield said in a January 2023 interview that he’s not too sure calling the band Pantera would be the right move if they put out new music.

“It’s not unheard of, it’s not blasphemous. I will say that it is entirely plausible, it is entirely possible, but at this point in time, I don’t know that anybody’s looking that far down the road. They’ve got a world tour to tackle, man, for the next two years, and they are gonna be busy doing that. Now, could it happen? Yes.”

“It depends, man. Again, it has to be done right, like this whole thing; the whole tour that’s happening has to be done properly. And I don’t really feel comfortable — if it were to happen, I would not feel comfortable calling it Pantera. I don’t think that would be classy. I’ll put it that way. And I’ll just leave it at that for now. [But] this lineup could make some very badass music. And the music is all that matters.”
