MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Doesn’t Like Talking About Potential New TOOL Music

Must read

Tool released their long-awaited new album Fear Inoculum in 2019, which means it’s about time to start wondering when Tool will release new music. Bassist Justin Chancellor recently said that Tool would hopefully get into the studio sometime after their 2024 tour to begin working on it, which of course set the hype train in motion. Now in an interview with Loudwire, Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan is pumping the breaks a little.

Keenan was asked if there were any concrete plans for Tool to work on new music, to which he gave a very grounded response: “I never mention anything until we actually have it in our hands, because every time I say it out loud it runs further away like Groundhog Day.”

When asked if there’s ever a conversation within the band after one of its members brings up potential new music, Keenan added: “To get people wound up and excited about something that doesn’t exist, I think it’s irresponsible.”

Chancellor recently took a deep dive into Tool‘s creative process, essentially saying he band simply likes to look at their material from all angles and figure out the best way to proceed. So it might be a little while longer… but hopefully not. Catch Tool at one of the dates below and maybe grab one of those super expensive tour-only CD reissues of Undertow while you’re there.
